About The Zachary Porter Foundation
The Zachary Porter Fund honors and celebrates the life of a wonderful young man who leaves a meaningful impact on the community he cherished. Zach was acutely aware of how fortunate he was to grow up here in Lake Bluff, valuing the benefit of attending excellent educational institutions and always grateful for the opportunity to pursue any of his many interests. Zach excelled on the baseball diamond as a player and later as a coach. He thrived on the lake, learning from and later managing the park district sailing camp on Lake Michigan each summer. As a young adult he taught himself to play guitar and was beginning to learn piano. Zach wanted other children to experience those same opportunities. The Zachary Porter Fund will help subsidize enrichment activities, including music lessons, sports, park programs, and outdoor field trips, for kids who would not otherwise have the access to the same opportunities. In the longer term, The Zachary Porter Fund aims to establish an outdoor space where animals of all kinds can take refuge and children can come to learn about the natural world that Zach so deeply valued.
In June 2023, we partnered with the Mothers Trust Foundation, which provides grants to Lake County families to fund experiences like summer camp, sports teams, and music lessons, as well as much needed clothing, safe baby supplies, and medical care. Our donation was able to help send up to 50 children to camp for this summer. We believe Zach would be proud to know his friends and family helped make a difference in these childrens' lives in his honor.
During fall 2023, we partnered with The Alliance for Excellence to ensure all LBMS 6th graders can attend the Springfield trip and all 8th graders can attend the D.C. trip this year.
Additionally, we partnered with North Chicago School District 187 to fund a low-cost youth soccer league, helping keep the program accessible for all students.
